Nov 13, 2007 - I stand corrected.

BeauTenor Comenta:

Nov 13, 2007 - I think they pulled out the German version one season at the Deutsche Oper...not exactly sure though. I thought the same thing first time I heard it (not being too familiar with any part of the opera other than O Beau Pays). I had to check the score...

Nov 18, 2007 - this is a real treat. Thanks. Has anyone got the Tony Poncet recording that they could post. Another tour de force.

Dec 31, 2007 - he does something strange with his jaw. perhaps this is a sign of why he declined?

Feb 11, 2008 - He escuchado varias veces a Richard Leech, pero ya no me acordaba de esta epoca (es al principio de su carrera Internacional) Dios mío! que grande era. Ella ha sido maravillosa e inteligentisima, una gran carrera.

Aug 11, 2008 - Odd, an American Tenor and Spanish soprano singing in german rather than French, but superb from both- I see Richard Bonynge is conducting and he is no longer young. Not sure when Lorengar left us, but this couldn't have been that many years ago- does anyone know?

operastud82 Comenta:

Aug 16, 2008 - This is amazing! Some of the best singing you could ask for! There is nothing wrong with his jaw and Leech has not declined at all, but he, unlike so many tenors today, actually KNOWS HOW TO SING without pushing or screaming! BRAVO!!!!

Dec 24, 2008 - I mean it must be 1988

assindiastignani Comenta:

Jul 17, 2009 - It was some time in the early 90's at the Deutsche Oper Berlin (hence the German) in a staging by John Dew. As I recall Leech was brought in at the last minute to replace another tenor. He had a spectacular success in the premiere.

Mar 5, 2010 - What's the original name of this duet?

jcriedijk Comenta:

Mar 19, 2010 - Lorengar already died in 1996,so 14 yrs ago,but she is still so much around, play records and see youtube regularly.I have never been so pleasantly surprised when she sang at abt 64 yrs of age with a huge volume and hardly vibration. She sang still brilliant in her "spare time" A great soprano and she looked superb It was a shock to hear she died at only 68 yrs of age(1928-1996)Many singers stop too late the examples are numerous, but Pilangar remained high quality till the end Brilliant soprano

Sep 26, 2011 - No words to describe the beauty of Pilar Lorengar and Richard Leech and this Aria. Absolute perfection and I listen to it over & over again. Thank you so much for posting. Barbara Todres/NYC

Jan 17, 2012 - I'm part Huguenot and I love French but it is not suited to strong expression such as this style of opera. German and Italian are best for this.
